Anti-EGFR antibodies, such as cetuximab and panitumumab, can cause hypomagnesemia by reducing magnesium reabsorption in the kidneys. The risk increases with longer treatment duration, older age, and low baseline magnesium levels. Although hypomagnesemia has been associated with better treatment outcomes in some studies, it may reflect greater drug exposure rather than a direct benefit.
